Chapter 20

So these past couple chapters have been kinda slow, so I'm sorry about that. I promise though, things will start to pick up in a few chapter. And wow, 40 followers! I never ever thought I would see that. Thank you so, so, so much!

Chapter 20

When Marie was taking a shower, I decided to call Sidney. He was on the road, but they weren’t playing tonight. I pulled out my phone and called his number. It picked up after a few rings.
“Hey Sid.” I greeted him.
“Actually it’s Jordan. We’re at a bar and Sid left his phone on the seat and I saw it was you, so..” Jordan said before trailing off awkwardly.
“Oh, hey. Do you know when my brother is getting back?” I asked.
Jordan laughed. “Well, he’s dancing with a hot red head, so I don’t think any time soon. Why, what do you need?”
I shrugged even though I knew he couldn’t see me. “Just to talk, tell him how things are going.”
“How’s you’re camp going?” He shouted into the phone, I could hear loud music blasting. I was surprised that Jordan was sitting and talking to me instead of picking up a girl. I could only imagine what Max was doing.
“It doesn’t start till Monday.” I told him.
“Okay, well remember. Head up, eyes on the puck. Get control of the puck before going for the play. Stay strong on your skates, fight for the puck..” Jordan started rambling off hockey facts. I laughed and interrupted him, “Thanks, Jordan. I’ll let you go now, it’s probably boring talking to me.”
“I don’t mind.” Jordan said. I was quiet for a moment, not sure how to respond to that. Luckily, Marie got out of the shower at the moment.
“Well, I have no choice, sorry. It’s my turn to get into the shower.”
“Good luck on Monday!” Jordan said.
“Thanks, tell my brother I called. Bye, Jordan.” I said before hanging up. Marie sat on the bed with a towel wrapped around her and started combing through her hair.
“You’re friends with your brothers friends? That’s pretty cool. My brother used to pretend that I didn’t exist.”
I shrugged, “Yeah, I guess so.” I didn’t feel like going into the fact that they were actually his teammates. I was going to wait until the last second to tell her my last name, I didn’t want her to think I got here just because of that. I grabbed some of the fluffy hotel towels and went into the bathroom. I buried my face in them, I loved how soft they are. I put them on the toilet and turned on the hot water before stepping into it. I heard Marie start talking to some one in rapid French, it must have been some one from her family. Between the hot water and the soothing French, I was almost lulled to sleep. I stood back up and started washing my hair, the last thing I needed to do was crack my head open in the shower. After seeping up my fair share of hot water, I eventually got it. I got dressed in my pajama’s consisting of a pair of Sidney’s old sweatpants and a t-shirt. I went back into the room to find Marie with the covers pulled up to her chin. I went to the mirror and braided my thick hair, it was the only way to keep in control without straightening it the next morning. I took out my contacts and put on my old glasses. I was surprised that I was letting Marie see me like this, most of my friends didn’t even see me in these glasses.
“What happened to your glasses?” Marie laughed. My hand automatically brushed the taped in lense on the left side.
“Oh, I stepped on them a few years back. My parents were so mad that I treated them so carelessly that they refused to buy me a new pair.” I explained.
“Well, it’s a pretty hot look.” Marie said.
I grinned, “I know, eh?” I turned off the lights and crawled into the soft sheets. I layed face down on the plush pillows before rolling over contently. Marie immediately switched to Hockey Night in Canada, well at least a rerun. I was immediately greeted with the bright, crazy suit of Don Cherry. I have a hard time respecting him since all the shit he gave Sidney, but I still loved listening to him. Even though the man on the tv was crazy, it was all a comforting site. With all of this, I easily turned to my side and fell asleep.

Next Morning

My phone went off the next morning way too early. Without opening my eyes, I reached onto the dresser and grabbed it.
“Qu’est-ce l’enfer?” Marie mumbled before shoving a pillow over her head.
“Yeah?” I mumbled into the phone.
“Oh honey, did you just wake up? Your father and I are just got in at the airport. Would you mind meeting us there sweetheart?” Mom gushed into the phone. I sat up and rubbed my head. “Yeah, I’ll be there in fifteen minutes, twenty tops.” I said before hanging up. I rushed around the room as quietly as possible, trying not to wake Marie up. I dug through my bag as quickly as possible. I dressed warmly in a pair of jeans, a sweatshirt, and my jacket on top. I put on a toque and a pair of light gloves in my pocket just incase. It was ironic that in Pittsburgh it was in it’s 50’s and here it was in it’s 20’s. I think at least, all of the changing back and forth between Celsius and Fahrenheit confused me. I shut the door and rushed down the stairs, skipping the wait for the elevator. I jogged all the way to the airport, arriving at the airport sweaty. Mom and Dad were sitting on the bench outside waiting for me. They both stood up when they saw me. Mom wrapped her arms me and tightly and I inhaled her familiar smell.
“Oh Ky-ky, I missed you so much.” She breathed. I was just a few inches taller than my mom with her 5”3 frame, so I bent over a little bit.
“I missed you too.” I breathed. Dad wrapped me up in his big arms after her. Most people thought my dad was cold-hearted and just pushed my brother. That was the most insane thing ever, all he ever wanted was the both of us to be safe and happy. Mom took my hand and Dad wrapped his arm around my shoulders. “Now, about that hockey, eh.”
